I am a 21 year old 5th grader!

I have officially begun my first placement of Student Teaching. When I first met my cooperating teacher, she asked me what grade I would like to teach when I am a full time teacher and why. The conversation went something like this...

Mrs. L- "What grade would you like to teach and why?"
Me- "I have always wanted to teach in 3rd grade. At that age, they are still sweet and caring but you can hold an intelligent conversation with them"
Mrs. L- "It is so funny. I say the same thing about 5th grade"

To be honest, I laughed a little inside to her thinking that 5th graders were sweet and caring. I just saw them as little awkward puberty-stricken zombies with an attitude problem, which probably came from my time as a 5th grader. Thankfully, my judgement of the 5th grade was completely wrong.

The 23 fifth-graders that I am so blessed to be working with are adorable, funny, and VERY smart. There has not been one day that I haven't laughed or at least smiled because of something they said, wrote, or did.

My class includes a Justin Bieber "fan" who knows the exact date, time, and place of his birth, a little Haitian boy who reminds me of my brothers in so many ways, a trouble-maker who I see myself in, and minds that I get to help develop and shape.I still have over 7 weeks with these students and I am already so sad about having to leave them. God really knew what He was doing when He put me in this class and I am so thankful!
